Meet the Team

Before founding Oxford & Cambridge Tutors, David was Head of Mathematics in two large schools, most recently a prestigious independent boarding school in Oxford, where he taught for 14 years and was also Housemaster. Over the years he has successfully prepared many Oxbridge applicants for the Oxford Mathematics Admissions Test, Cambridge STEP exams, personal statements and mock interviews, both in person and online. As Director of Oxford & Cambridge Tutors, David has personally interviewed all our tutors, selecting only Cambridge and Oxford University undergraduates and graduates with excellent communication skills and teaching ability, thereby ensuring a world-class tutoring team of unrivalled brilliance.

Ben

Operations Director

Ben is a graduate of the University of Bristol where he read Physics and Philosophy before gaining a PGCE at the University of Oxford (Lincoln College). He has 25 years of experience teaching Physics, Maths, Science and Philosophy in six schools across two continents and has supported students at every stage from 11+ and Common Entrance through to personal statements and university applications. He has led Physics and Science departments in independent boarding and day schools and for seven years was the Academic Deputy Head in a large academic day school in the South of England. As a result of his experience in educational management he coordinates operations at Cambridge Tutors to ensure the highest standards of academic practice.

David has a First Class degree in Physics from University College London and a PhD in Theoretical Physics from Imperial College London. After obtaining a PGCE from Edinburgh University, he taught at Loretto School and Cheltenham Ladies College. He ran the Mathematics Societies in both these schools, coaching teams to success in the UK Mathematics Trust national competitions. He teaches both Mathematics and Physics, and develops educational resources and diagnostic materials which we use to assess gaps in learning and understanding in Maths and Science.

Claire

Education Consultant

Claire has an MA in Classics from Cambridge University (Trinity Hall) and is a qualified solicitor. She worked for a firm of City solicitors for several years before moving to Oxford to teach Business Law to graduates and then worked in the research industry. She has three children in Oxfordshire schools. In her spare time, Claire and her dog Blijke volunteer at a local primary school, sponsored by the charity Canine Concern. At Oxford Tutors, Claire specialises in identifying the perfect tutor for each student.

Laura has a BA in Anthropology from the University of Durham, an MA from the University of East Anglia in the Arts of Africa, the Pacific and the Americas and a PGCE from the University of Kingston. She worked for ten years in top London Prep Schools as a teacher and Head of Reception Years. She was also Principal of a Nursery School in London. She has recently completed part of an MA course at Oxford Brookes University (Teaching Children with Literacy Difficulties). She is an experienced teacher and is a specialist in Early Years Education through to Prep School age children. She is a parent of three children in Oxfordshire Schools and has a wide knowledge of schools both day and boarding.

Juliette

Education Consultant

Juliette graduated with a First-Class BSc (Hons) in Anthropology from University College London, after moving from Paris where she attended a British International School and tutored French Literature and Language for 3 years. After working in London for a year and volunteering for the educational charity Action Tutoring, Juliette obtained a Distinction from the University of Oxford for her completion of the MSc in Social Anthropology. Her work on the anthropologies of Religion and Ethics has recently been published in the Journal of the Anthropological Society Oxford. Completely bilingual in French and English, Juliette has been tutoring for over 7 years in France, the United States and the United Kingdom, and has significant experience helping students prepare for their University applications. Trained as a ballet dancer since the age of five, Juliette now spends her free time in the yoga studio and perfecting her lasagna recipe.

Daisy is a recent Master’s graduate in Biodiversity, Conservation and Management from the University of Oxford (Magdalen College), following on from a First-Class BSc in Biology from the University of St Andrews. She has also worked as a Research Assistant for the SalGo Team at the University of Oxford, specialising in Evolutionary Ecology and Matrix Population Modelling. As part of this group, she has been involved in a number of different projects, including training interns on a project that led to a paper which was published in a leading journal in ecology and evolution. Daisy is experienced in supporting students at various levels across the Sciences, and specialises in supporting applicants applying to study Biological Sciences at Oxbridge and other top universities. In her spare time, Daisy enjoys equestrian sports and carrying out voluntary ecological surveys for the RSPB.

Tom

Universities Consultant

Tom is a recent Political Theory MPhil graduate from St. Catherine’s College, Oxford, having achieved a first-class degree in PPE from St. Hilda’s College in 2020. His research centred around the intersection of feminist theory and philosophy of language, innovating an approach grounded in the work of Wittgenstein to feminist ‘speech act’ issues. At school, Tom was a national champion debater and went on to coach debating to younger students after he left. He has tutored for Oxbridge applications in PPE and Philosophy since 2018, and from 2022-2023 he ran several Philosophy summer courses at Lady Margaret Hall and Somerville College. In his spare time, Tom is an avid football fan and has written several plays, one of which was performed at the Burton Taylor studio of the Oxford Playhouse in 2019.

Sophie is our Oxbridge Admissions specialist: she worked for the University of Oxford for 8 years, and Canterbury Christ Church University prior to this.  She holds a BA in Education Studies and has Qualified Teacher Status. During her time in the Oxford University Admissions Department, she was responsible for student recruitment for China and South East Asia and has extensive knowledge in delivering workshops and presentations to schools, colleges, students, teachers, advisors and parents. Her role included providing ongoing support and monitoring for Oxford University undergraduate scholarship holders. Sophie has a thorough understanding and experience of the Oxbridge Journey, the nuances of applying to both Oxford and Cambridge and optimising the chance of a successful admissions outcome.

Erin

Schools Liaison and Summer School Coordinator

Erin has a BA in History and English from the University of Oxford (Pembroke College). She has designed and taught courses in History and English, and delivered university application courses, helping students with personal statements, aptitude tests and interview preparation. Erin has worked extensively with schools, speaking to students, teachers and parents about Oxbridge applications and how best to prepare. She has a wealth of experience when it comes to helping students raise their aspirations and realise their potential when applying to competitive UK universities. Erin was introduced to rowing at Oxford, is a coxswain with the GB Rowing Team and a two-time world champion and current world record holder.

James is a first class MSci graduate in Physics from the University of Cambridge (St John’s College), and has lived in Oxford his whole life. Whilst at University, he was the social secretary of the St John’s College hockey club, and was president of St John’s Voices. He wrote his Master’s project on the use of machine learning in the detection of parity violation in the Large Hadron Collider, and at one point he had over 1 million images of garden snails on his laptop. He has been tutoring Maths and Physics with Oxford Tutors for over 5 years, taking part in Summer Schools and Admissions Weekends, and he is the author of one of the NSAA mock tests. He has also spent time volunteering at Oxfam. In his spare time, James enjoys running, playing the guitar and reading historical fiction novels.

Erin

Oxbridge Intern

Erin is a double first class MEng graduate in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cambridge (St John’s College). She has also worked as a zero-carbon consultant at Delta H, a technical hydrogen consulting start-up based in London, specialising in the development of green ammonia technology. She wrote her Master’s project on ‘Combustion of biochar in a fluidised bed’, which led to a paper submitted to Combustion and Flame. She has been tutoring Oxbridge Admissions with Oxford Tutors for 2 years, participating in Admissions Days to help students prepare for University applications. In her spare time, she likes running to different restaurants and cafes for brunch.

Benedict is a recent graduate from the University of Oxford (St Anne’s College) where he read Music. Whilst at university, he was the social secretary of St. Anne’s Football Club and also helped to organise St. Anne’s College Ball. During his studies, Benedict focused on the analysis of early 20th century music using methods such as the discrete Fourier transform. He tutored students through the Oxbridge admissions process throughout his degree and is keen to help students realise their potential. In his spare time, Benedict plays the violin, trains for triathlons, and plays with a local football team.

Amy

Associate and Tutor Coordinator

Amy graduated with a Masters degree in Theology from the University of Oxford (Regent’s Park College). She teaches degree level Philosophy courses on behalf of the Oxford Prospects & Global Development Institute. She also tutors in Theology, Religious Studies, History of Art and Fine Art. Amy is responsible for our website, corporate material, marketing, tutor coordination, support for our Oxbridge Programmes, project management and new product development. She assists with Oxford-style essays for university applications and mentors in creative writing. Amy is a professional fine artist and 20th century art assessor.

Michele has a Business Science degree from the University of Cape Town as well as Postgraduate and Masters qualifications both in South Africa and the UK. She is a qualified Chartered Accountant (SA) and has practiced in South Africa, Mauritius and the United Kingdom. Focusing on both SMEs as well as the banking and investments sectors, Michele brings a broad experience to Oxford Tutors. She employs Melinda and Sue who handle client billings and receipts while Michele handles the management accounting for this growing business.
